A melting pot of texture and print – Sacai
Chitose Abe can be championed for introducing heavy layering and reconstruction long before it became the norm. Despite their witty silhouettes may catch some viewers off-guard, the garments always come together to make an eloquent statement. For pre-fall and mens this season, Sacai splices together the usual military and sporty tropes, with warmer accents such as printed fringed poncho scarves and faux fur-trimmed down jackets. Classic blazers were remixed with cardigan inserts and heavy wool skirts unzipped to reveal flowing satin underskirts. The timeless elegance was juxtaposed by the ongoing collaboration with Nike and the technical performance fabrics it produced on puffers. Leopard prints and faux fur added a carnal twist. The feeling of coming together in spite (or maybe because of) our differences was underlined by the collaboration with legendary London hangout Bar Italia – an old-school Italian café bar where all sorts of people mix. Abe fondly recalls frequenting as a student, being inspired by the open-minded vibe and sense of melting-pot eclecticism.
